YUYAN LIU

I am running for GSA President to represent the postgraduate community, address confusion and promote solutions. My focus will be on helping postgraduate students with their academic and employment challenges, while advocating for increased student wellbeing.

In academics, I plan to work towards an open and inclusive environment. In addition to addressing academic issues and providing support, I will encourage interdisciplinary collaboration. There will be a focus on connecting international and local students, promoting cross-cultural exchange and enhancing academic diversity. As a postgraduate student, I am aware of the importance of access to career support. Therefore I will strive to provide you with a strong support system, including alumni networking opportunities, to assist postgraduate students in their career development and job search.

Concerning student wellbeing, good physical and mental health is essential. Therefore, I will seek to work with university departments to try to expand wellness facilities and introduce stress-relieving activities, such as meditation, to ensure that the physical and mental health of postgraduate students is looked after.

Finally, I will aim to build on current activities to create a wider choice of activities and expand the range of meaningful activities. This includes adventure, skating and Frisbee sports, exposing students to new experiences. And strive to make it possible for more students to participate.

As a candidate for President, I am committed to being an ally, a listener and an advocate on your postgraduate journey at University of York. Postgraduate study is full of endless opportunities and an important journey of personal growth. I invite you to share your ideas, interests and needs with me so that I can better assist and enrich your postgraduate experience.

By voting me as the President, we will together unlock the potential of our postgraduate community and shape an extraordinary postgraduate journey!
