Samin Qasabian

I, as a master student in Education, am honoured to be nominated for the role of the GSA president at the university of York.

My strong passion toward Equality Education, as one of the goals defined by the UN in sustainable development, has encouraged me to be an active member of the Education department and has led me to apply for this role.

My gained experiences in different positions such as an educational Rep at the education department, masters’ coordinator of the GSA and a mentor for the Global Program centre made me familiar with the system and environment in the university of York. At the same time, being a Rep made me able to communicate and discuss educational challenges of students with the board of studies in one of the oldest departments of the university. Moreover, I brought my leadership skills from my own country where I used to be the head of student Union in my BA, a coordinator in academic settings, a head teacher and a health ambassador of the capital town of Iran, Tehran.

I trust my educational journey at Education in the university of York would assist me to empathise with students’ issues including educational, financial and mental health, and to find the efficient solutions for them. This is generally defining the role of an educator which I have been taught and trained for. I believe that a strong passion of a person for a job with the relevant skills and knowledge needed to be accompanied by some specific personal characteristics to achieve the best possible results.

My personal characteristics including perseverance, commitment and granular attitude would assist me to lead the students’ issues and help their voices to be heard and be addressed to the university board efficiently. In this stage of my life, achieving the position of leading the students’ union as a president is the most rewarding opportunity for me, while I can dedicate myself to Educational system which is my home.
