Christian Bruegger

My experience: During my Undergraduate degree at the College of Charleston, I served in
multiple executive roles, including Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, across several
student organizations. I am currently the Co-Chair for Wentworth Graduate College (GCRC) and
the Colleges Officer for GSA, therefore I have existing experience advocating for students at
York.

Why me: Student Representation is an important part of every University, and I am passionate
about ensuring all student voices are heard. As an international student who defines themself
amongst several intersectionalities of diversity, I will be a great representative for the
postgraduate student body.
As President of the GSA, I will:

A: Action – Do more than talk but follow through with initiatives.
Create more awareness and support for mental, academic, and social well-being: Creating
therapy-focused events such as mental health talks. Running academic-focused events which
offer a scheduled time and place to work on assignments, with tailored support to advance their
academic achievement. Opening opportunities for postgraduates to participate in
extracurriculars, which are considerate of their different schedules and needs.

C: Communication- Revamp GSA’s communication to be a stronger presence across campus and
diversify communication streams so students can access information regardless of social media
use. Push the University to do the same so students receive consistent and up-to-date

communications across platforms. Create open-door policies and office hours for GSA reps, so
students can talk to them more openly and successfully address issues occurring on campus.

T: Transparency- Provide increased transparency to the postgraduate community about who the
GSA are and our mission. Work with the University to inform international students of available
resources, key information, and dates before they arrive in York. This would include creating a
central resource hub. Ultimately, give postgraduates more input into how they are supported
during their time at the University.
