Lawrence Nnoli

As the Vice President (Academic) I will commit to the advocacy for implementing more innovative teaching methodologies.

I will champion the incorporation of inclusive teaching practices, such as universal design for learning, which would create an environment that values diverse perspectives and supports all students in their educational journey. I will actively collaborate with the faculties and departments to improve feedback mechanisms, encourage student input in curriculum development, and ensure that assessment practices are fair, transparent and not overly harsh.

If elected, I will advocate for increased funding for the GSA Hardship fund. The Hardship Fund currently receives donations only from the alumni and friends of the university. My advocacy will see that the university is made to be part of the contributors to that Fund. This will directly enable the GSA to attend to the growing financial needs of graduate students, which have risen recently due to the rising cost of living witnessed in the United Kingdom.

In addition, I will lead the advocacy for simplifying the procedures involved in getting financial aid from the GSA’s Hardship Fund and ensure that graduate students who need this financial aid are not made to pass through gruelling practices.

Lastly, recognizing the importance of mental health and work-life balance, I will advocate for the development of comprehensive support systems tailored specifically for graduate students. This includes promoting increased access to counselling services, expanding wellness programs, and ensuring that mental health resources are readily available.

Thank you.
