GSA Stance in Support of UCU York Industrial Action
The GSA stands in solidarity with UCU York in relation to the industrial action taking place on the 24th, 25th and 30th November.
We respect that some students will disagree with the position taken, however as an Officer team we have formed this stance following conversations with our Academic Representatives, Part-Time Officers and polling of the student body. We believe that staff have the right to fight for fair pay, better working conditions, and appropriate pensions.
Our support for the strikes does not mean we are not on the side of students; we recognise the negative effect that strike action has on some students’ experience and we are committed to supporting them during this period. The priority of the GSA is to fully support students’ welfare and academic life in the university.
We will continue to help students get through this difficult time, and provide as much support as we can. This includes but is not limited to ongoing consultation with students during the strikes, the availability of our Advice Team for any student queries and ongoing liaison with the University and UCU regarding any developments.
