GSA Statement on Student Conduct

The GSA opposes all forms of harassment and strongly condemns all such actions towards members of the GSA Sabbatical or Staff team.

Following a recent incident, the GSA sabbatical officers and staff reaffirm that it is unacceptable for any member of the GSA or the University of York to use abusive language in their communications with others. Whenever we are made aware of incidents of this kind we will ensure the full use of the University’s disciplinary procedures and, when appropriate, explore further legal action.

We ask that anyone interacting with our Sabbatical and Staff team treats them with the respect and dignity outlined in Regulation 7 and the GSA staff Code of Conduct.

We echo the spirit of Regulation 7 in the University of York’s Ordinances and Regulations of ‘building a community of respect’ and we ask that students do the same to make the University of York a safe and welcoming environment.

We take seriously our ‘responsibility to protect (our) employees from cyber-bullying (harassment caused by another(s) use of social media) and discrimination’ as outlined in our staff Code of Conduct policy.

To reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe environment for students and staff members, the GSA will be announcing a new member led policy in the upcoming weeks, covering all manner of student engagement with the GSA, including but not limited to: volunteering, events, networks, social media, and more.
