GSA Statement in response to Government lockdown Tier 5 Announcement 5/1/2021

In light of the recent changes to government guidance yesterday introducing new Tier 5 regulations, the Graduate Students’ Association would like to publish this short statement.

The GSA is very sensitive to the difficulties students are currently facing and are looking at how best we can support you throughout the next term. The University of York is yet to provide a clarification about the implications of this lockdown but we will update you as soon as we know more.

As such, we are reviewing all of our previous plans for what help and support we provide postgraduates for the term ahead and adapting to the current situation covering all aspects of your student experience. We will be releasing further information over the next few days. In the meantime, we would like to remind you that the University of York Coronavirus webpage is constantly being updated.

Your student representatives have been compiling a list of expectations for support to all PGTs and PGRs from the University. Our expectation is to work closely with the University in the next couple of weeks in order to achieve the best support possible. We’ll be publishing this later today. In the meantime, we need your feedback to ensure that what we offer is what is most needed by you. With that in mind, if you have any queries, concerns or ideas on what support you would like for the term ahead, please don’t hesitate to contact the Sabbatical Officers according to your area of interest.

You can find our facebook pages at Jane Baston GSA, VP Academic, Clara Garcia GSA, VP Wellbeing and Community, and Purnur Altay GSA, President. Alternatively you can contact us by emailing vpacademic@yorkgsa.org, vpwellbeing@yorkgsa.org, president@yorkgsa.org respectively.

In the meantime, we would encourage any of you who feel it would be helpful to take a look at the GSA Advice and Welfare pages available here: https://www.yorkgsa.org/welfare/online-guidance-hub/

We wish you all the best in this difficult time and please know we will be doing our best to support you during the term ahead.

Best wishes from your sabbatical team,

Clara, Purnur and Jane
