Rasha’s Blog – New Beginnings

New beginnings!

It is true that new beginnings have a special beauty and charm. Maybe it’s the enthusiasm, the passion and the hope for a new start. This adrenalin rush that accompanies the beginning of a new academic year is truly amazing. It gives you a burst of energy to declare it out loud to yourself and the world around you that you can do it. How beautiful!

Having said that, sadly this is not the case for all students. Many new students start the new academic year with stress, and possibly anxiety. They question their ability to get the degree they aspire for.

For those students, I am writing this message to tell you that this feeling is absolutely fine. It’s normal, accepted and definitely natural. We all fear what we do not know. But believe me you can do it, and you will do it. If you have made it all the way to York, then you are capable of doing anything. You have it within you to raise to the challenge. So, just rise to it.

In the GSA, we will be by your side, we are providing this year more academic and wellbeing support to let you know that you are never alone. You can drop by our office at any time, just to chat, or get it out. We have tea, coffee, and green tea for healthy students!

We are also providing weekly academic support in the library, every Wednesday, in the afternoon, just drop by room LFA 144 any time after 1pm. We designed these sessions in collaboration with York Research Graduate School to fulfil your needs of research skills, software, etc. so please please email me what you need, and I’ll do my best to include it in these sessions. Some students, suggested Matlab, Latex, optimisation, and probabilistic graphical model.

So, kindly let me know what else you need at president@yorkgsa.org

Just keep pushing, you can do it!
