Laura Robertson

Summary of current role

I joined the Advice team to support Chris in providing postgraduate students at the University of York with advice on academic and welfare issues such as appeals, misconduct, exceptional circumstances, complaints, supervisor issues and leave of absence.

Previous Experience

I have always had an active interest in promoting mental health services, and I am passionate about representing student voices and improving student welfare. During my Undergraduate degree at Southampton University, I was the Community officer for my undergraduate halls of residence, a Student Union Ambassador and a Careers Service Ambassador. All these roles have collectively strengthened my thorough understanding of Student Unions, and its crucial roles in providing care to its students. Last academic year, I undertook the Music in the Community MA course here at York, and I particularly focused on mental health and community welfare.

Fun Information

Alongside music, I enjoy countryside walks (that may or may not result in a pub lunch), propagating my many houseplants and reading fiction books. I’ve also recently been trying my hand at watercolour painting. I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, so that’s been a challenge!
