Summary of current role
As the Representation and Democracy Coordinator, I am responsible for overseeing the democratic function of the GSA. My role is really diverse and ranges from helping our elected Officers fulfil their manifesto commitments to maintaining the GSA’s student-led ethos. I do this by administering GSA elections and Association Council as well as supporting our strong representative network of postgraduate volunteers. In a nutshell, I care about elevating student voices by ensuring that a robust system of student feedback is maintained.
I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2021, so I would say I have a good recent understanding of the student experience. Having been an active member of Sheffield SU Council and a candidate in its Sabbatical Officer elections, when the opportunity arose to empower other students to do the same, it felt only natural to say yes! My previous experience in student politics has helped me to suggest how best to maximise engagement with GSA volunteers and the wider postgraduate body.
In my spare time I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie, I like a good challenge. Whether it be scuba diving off the coast of Malta or half-marathon running through the streets of London, I’m always looking for a new experience. When I’m not putting myself in mortal danger, I enjoy reading, going to the gym, table tennis (I heard they have this at York, I better check it out) or “inspecting” all of York’s bars & pubs, all in one night that is.
