Ade Solanke in Conversation

Book online

25/05/2022

The GSA is delighted to welcome acclaimed playwright Ade Solanke who will be speaking about her work-in-progress play, Phillis in London. This is a fantastic opportunity to hear Ade discussing her project, which tells an important and poignant tale about the teenage prodigy and poet, Phillis Wheatley. The play explores Wheatley’s London trip of 1773, during the height of the slave trade, to publish her book of poetry – the first African-American to publish a book in English, and the second American woman to do so. While she was feted as a celebrity, she was still enslaved.

There will also be an opportunity to hear about Ade’s wider project focussing on Georgian London’s African presence.

The event will start at 6:00pm on Zoom.
