‘Concerning Violence’ film and discussion

29/10/2020

Join us to discuss the work of Franz Fanon, through debate and critical reflection.

We will be screening and debating parts of the documentary from Göran Olsson ‘The Wretched of the Earth’ (2014) based on Martinican psychiatrist and anti-colonial thinker Frantz Fanon’s controversial essay ‘Concerning Violence’ from his 1961 book The Wretched of the Earth. The film narrates the events of African nationalist and independence movements in the 1960s and 1970s which challenged colonial and white minority rule, making a case for African decolonisation.

After the screening there will be a post-film debate with a collective open discussion facilitated by a series of questions.
