Study Support
Although most post-graduates come through their university experience without any problems, there are occasions when things go wrong. To this end, the GSA provides advice, support and representation for students in both academic appeals and those facing disciplinary action. Because we believe that students are best placed to defend other students, all these services are coordinated by the elected Academic Affairs Officer, who is available for confidential appointments, and contactable through the GSA office or by email.
If you encounter problems, speak to someone as soon as possible; don't leave it before asking for help! Some basic steps you could take:
- If you feel comfortable, speak to your Course Rep. They will be able to raise any concerns you have, or contact the GSA themselves if they need to
- Pop into the GSA Office and see the Academic Affairs Officer, or email academic@yorkgsa.org.
- Speak to Mel Fox, who performs our student support service and undertakes both Academic and Welfare Casework for us. She is co-employed by the GSA and YUSU, and can be found in the GSA Office Monday afternoon and Thursday morning. If you need to speak to her the rest of the week, walk over to YUSU's Advice and Support Centre, where she can be found the rest of the week.
If you feel you qualify for Mitigating Circumstances consideration, the sooner you speak to us or your department the better. Keep a record; what has happened and when? Keep a log of all phone calls and emails you may receive from supervisors/departments. This will all help us help you.
