Registering with a Health Centre

All students who are studying at York for longer than six months are advised to register with a GP as soon as possible after arrival. Students can register with the University's on campus health centre or any other medical practice as desired. A list of local GP’s can be found on the NHS website.

University Health Centre – Dr Price & Partners

Anyone wishing to see a doctor or a nurse must make an appointment. To make an appointment either visit the Health Centre and ask the receptionist for an appointment or telephone 01904 721820. Alternatively, you can make appointments online if you register for online services. Appointments usually last for a maximum of 10 minutes so sometimes a doctor or nurse may ask you to make a longer appointment when they will see you again. When booking an appointment you may be asked some details about why you need the appointment – this is to ensure patients see the most appropriate member of staff and appointments are not wasted by you having to return to see someone else. The nurses are very experienced and are able to help with many health care issues that you may only have been able to consult a doctor about in your home country.

Medicines are not issued at the University Health Centre. If a doctor or nurse issues you with a prescription you will need to take in to a local pharmacy.

More information about the Health Centre can be found here.

There is also a NHS Walk-In medical centre located on Monkgate in York which is open 7 days a week. Information about this service can be found here.
