Major stakeholders at the University, including management, college and departments, as well as students themselves,recognize that a sense of community
is extremely important to postgraduates (PGs).
Benefits of strong, supportive communities include greater welfare, social and academic achievement, networking, and happiness. A sense of community at the University of York is an integral part of a positive student experience.

This report aims to explain the findings of a research project, initiated by the GSA, into the state of postgraduate communities at York. The findings of this research are discussed and eight recommendations offered. The research was carried out by a student intern provided by the Student Internship Bureau.
