Students from the University of York make up a large percentage of the overall population of the City and many of these students live off campus.
The GSA appreciate that within the postgraduate community there is a vast array of experience, skills and expertise which could be effectively used for the benefit of other students and the wider community. Therefore, the GSA are currently working on a community engagement strategy which will hopefully bring together students and non-students on projects that will improve the community for all.
It is hoped that this strategy will provide postgraduates with opportunities to volunteer: in the local community and with both local charities and local branches of national charities. Such opportunities will not only enhance the community and the perception of students within it, but will also give postgraduates the chance to put their specialist knowledge and experience into practice, which could increase their employability.
