In addition to my usual Press and Publicity Officer duties of ensuring that the GSA's events and other activities are publicised in a variety of ways (the GSA Newsletter, the Facebook group, press releases, event posters, etc), I have also done the following this term:

  • I volunteered to act as the GSA LGBT Rep at the start of term on two YUSU committees; YUSU Equality, Welfare and Diversity Committee and YUSU LGBT Committee (a part of my role as a GSA Officer that I find very rewarding)
  • Part of being the GSA LGBT Rep has been to foster closer links to YUSU LGBT and help them with their publicity so that the GSA can represent our LGBT members better and help to get them more involved in YUSU LGBT events if they'd like.
  • When we met as an Executive to discuss our new draft constitution, I contributed to increasing the representational power, and have this power enshrined in the constitution, of some of the new proposed positions in our draft constitution, particularly those pertaining to welfare representation, such as an elected LGBT Rep. I was able to use the links that I have been helping to foster with YUSU to get three YUSU Officers to come to the Executive meeting to support me in this.
  • I am part of the GSA Democracy Working Group that reformed the GSA's electoral rules, regulations and ordinances at the start of Spring Term.
  • I have done preliminary work on a new Exec-mandated GSA magazine, GradMag, the first edition of which is due out in Summer Term.
  • Along with Events Officer Richard Mitchell, I have rolled out new advertising posters about who the GSA is and what we do.
  • I looked into ways of increasing awareness of the GSA and our activities at King’s Manor. This ultimately led to the creation of the GSA King’s Manor GCRC.
  • I helped the GSA and Wentworth College raise money at RAG Parade.
  • I acted as the Responsible Person and host of the GSA St. Patrick’s Karaoke Party at the end of term.

In the Summer Term, in addition to my usual day-to-day Press and Publicity Officer work, I intend to:

  • Increase the amount of signage directing people to the GSA Office in and around Wentworth.
  • Look into getting more dedicated GSA noticeboards around campus.
  • Campaign for more information and/or links to be present on the website about LGBT-specific welfare.
  • Continue my work on the new GSA magazine due out next term.
  • Work with the GSA Designer and my fellow Officers on the new Graduate Guide to York that will be sent out to all new graduate students joining the university next year.
