Skills Development

Alongside our Academic Support focus, the GSA also promote skills development opportunities for research students across campus.

Opportunities are available from a number of bodies:

    Researcher Development Team:
    • The Researcher Development Team (RDT) exists to support research students skill development in a variety of areas, from presentation and public speaking skills through to developing your teaching and assessment skills.  The University expects you to gain 180 points while completing your PhD, with some departments expecting you to have completed the majority by your upgrade assessment. You will be awarded points through completion of such courses. For more information on opportunities available from the RDT, go to their website or log on to Skills Forge and browse through the available courses
    .
  • Computing Service:

      • Courses are available from the Computing Service on a range of software packages ranging from Office 2007 to reference managers such as EndNote.  For more information, check their website
  • Maths Skills Centre
