Karisha George is the new Finance Officer for the GSA. She is from Trinidad
and Tobago in the South of the Caribean and has been a
postgraduate student in the Psychology department at the University of York
for two years, exploring resilience in offenders and the mentaly ill.
When not researching, she enjoy sports (karate in particular), hanging
out with friends and learning about different cultures.

Welfare Officer

• Keke Zu

Keke is a PhD student in the Department of Electronics. He has spent two years in York, and believes that the skills and knowledge he has developed during this time such as researching into and filling in tax claims and HC2 health forms will prepare him for his role as Welfare Officer.  In his spare time, Keke like to be involved in sports activities especially badminton and running. Keke also enjoys reading, travelling and learning different cultures.

Academic Affairs Officer

• Beatrice Akua-Sakyiwah

Beatrice Akua-Sakyiwah is currently a second year post graduate student at the University of York. Her research project focuses on Somali refugee women’s use and perception of services available to them in the UK. Within this she aims to explore gender inequality in the distribution of social resources in the UK and their effect on her female participants’ everyday life. Outside research, Beatrice enjoys sitting around with friends and just engaging in discussion about everyday issues of life. She loves theatrical activities and movies.

Karin Diaconu is the 2011-2012 GSA President. Originally from Romania, she
was raised in the German speaking Sibiu and attended a German secondary
school. She completed her undergraduate degree in Politics, Philosophy and
Economics at the University and is currently pursuing her MSc in Health
Sciences (Cancer Epidemiology). Karin enjoys reading, languages and cooking.
